The strength of the Pomeranian Voivodeship is experienced companies handling orders for external investors in the offshore industry – as well as installations, design centers, projects, strong research and development centers and currently over 7,000 students of faculties with the sector.

The first wind farms will start operating in 2025, however Pomeranian companies are already specializing and implementing external ones. They include single-bearing wind turbines, design, meeting and rental of terminals, foundation lighting and connection complete with installations, service, installation and maintenance. Also specialized project creation and management and words for investors at the Port of Gdynia and the Port of Gdansk.

State of the art

According to the updated Polish Energy Policy, RES should account for at least 23% of total gross energy consumption in 2030. Pomerania is one of the leaders in RES production in Poland with a share of over 50% of total energy production. However, the demand for energy consumption is nearly two times higher than overall energy production in the region. Wind farms have the largest share in the production of renewable electricity (they generate over 90% of “green” electricity). The share of hydroelectric power plants is below 4%, and other sources have a share of about 4%.

The largest wind farms in the Pomeranian Voivodeship are located in the vicinity of Pelplin, Nowy Staw, Kopaniewo, Wicko and Zajączkowo. There are more wind power plants planned in the region.

Pomerania’s potential in the development of the offshore industry

According to McKinsey&Company, 77 thousand people will be employed in the Polish offshore energy industry, related to the development of offshore wind energy. Educational facilities in Pomerania have the potential to service the demand for processing offshore investments in the coming decades. It is estimated that currently there are ca. 7,400 students in core degrees at Pomeranian universities.

More about the talent pool in Pomerania here.

Although the offshore industry in Poland is only just spreading its wings, the Pomeranian Voivodeship has developed this expertise for years. The region boasts of companies that are producers for the global offshore industry and in addition to the production of ships and installations for the offshore sector, the Pomeranian Voivodeship also has a vast number of ship design offices working on innovative projects.

Remontowa Holding is the largest shipbuilding group in Poland as well as a leading European manufacturer of offshore vessels. Remontowa Shipbuilding was responsible for the production of “Avalon Sea”, designed by Rolls Royce and commissioned by Secunda Canada.

CRISTshipyard in Gdynia is responsible for the production of specialist INNOVATION and VOLE AU VENT (VIDAR) vessels. These heavylift jack-up type vessels are used to install and operate offshore wind farms. Crist Shipyard was also responsible for the production of partially equipped hulls for SOV (Service Operation Vessel) to operate offshore wind farms

Mostostal has traditionally been a supplier of installations for underwater oil and gas extraction, as well as parts of the drilling platforms for leading contractors in the petrochemical and oil processing industries. Now they have added offshore projects to their portfolio, mainly for the Scandinavian market.

In 2020 the Industrial Development Agency decided to establish the Baltic Industrial Group (Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic) – it includes Gdańsk Shipyard (former GSG Towers), Baltic Operator, and Energomontaż-Północ Gdynia. The integration of the companies was to increase their chance to participate in the supply chain necessary for the implementation of Polish investments in the field of offshore wind energy.

In early 2020, the Nava Ship Design Office based in Gdansk presented its latest Nava WFSV 22 catamaran project. This crew transfer vessel is meant to be used in the offshore wind farms investments.

StoGda Ship Design Office, which has been operating for nearly 25 years, carries out many unusual offshore projects such as wave and tidal power plants, fish farms, oil vessels, jack-up vessels and other projects with CRISTShipyard.

Polish Register of Shipping is an institution based on the classification and supervision of compliance of manufactured ships, warships, industrial installations, steel structures, etc. with the requirements of its own classification regulations, international conventions and state regulations. PRS has been supervising offshore facilities since the end of the seventies.

For nearly 50 years Maritime Advanced Research Centre (CTO) has been conducting research and development activities for the shipbuilding, yachting, offshore and energy industries. CTO S.A. designs and delivers unique research equipment and performs product certification. CTO implements a number of programs, including those related to the offshore and RES industry.

The economic impact of offshore sector development

The relatively high number of Polish companies (ca. 100) have already ‘know-how’ and experience of being part of an international value chain in the offshore industry. However, some parts of the chain in Poland are still underdeveloped (e.g. nacelle, rotors and blades production and some stages of servicing installation process). Pomeranian companies contribute in terms of research and design solutions for industry as it is stated in the section above.

The development of the industry will have a strong impact on many sectors in Pomeranian Voivodeship including shipyard industry, ports, warehouses, cable production, components manufacturing, education, research institutions, financing and insurance, safety and even tourism.

Construction of wind farms in the southern part of the Baltic Sea will result in the inflow of new domestic and foreign investments in the region and create new jobs.

Many companies, both domestic and international, have chosen the region as their location. In terms of major FDIs, Pomerania is home to companies such as Unilever (production of Algida icecream in Banino near Gdańsk), Dr. Oetker (production of food concentrates in Gdańsk, production of frozen pizzas in Łebcz) or Farm Frites (production of fries in Lębork).

As a coastal region, Pomerania has always been a perfect location for fish processing – it is now the main fish processing location in Europe and the host to the world’s biggest salmon producer ONE (previously Marine Harvest). The Norwegian capital group employs over 4 000 people in the region and additionally opened its SSC in Gdańsk. Graal, BMC Władysławowo, Łosoś Ustka, Szkuner and King Oscar should be named among.

Pomerania is the world’s top salmon producer

The key factor driving companies to establish their fish processing activities in Pomerania is its location. Pomerania is a sea coast region but here it’s not the natural resources that matter but the logistics. A prime example is a showcase Polish exports product – smoked salmon. The material is imported from the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea mainly, then processed in the plants in Pomerania and then sent to end markets in western Europe. Around 60% of the total production is exported – primarily to the EU countries (around 90%) with the biggest share of Germany as the key destination market. What’s also important to mention, the fish processing sector in Poland is also on the cutting edge of the technology as all the companies active in the sector underwent modernisation programmes.

The investment potential of the biotechnology sector in Pomerania owes it to the two main reasons:

availability of talents

necessary R&D infrastructure

Main companies in Pomerania’s biotech sector

Wide spectrum of specialisation

There are numerous companies operating in the sector in Pomerania, including molecular biology (A&A Biotechnology, EURx), medical devices for oncology, infectious diseases and transplantology (Blirt), cosmetics (Ziaja, Oceanic, Farmix, Femi Loton, Inventia), laboratory diagnostics (Invicta), microbiological tests (JS Hamilton Poland), pharmacy (Polpharma, Profarm, Labofarm) or the production of detergents (Impuls).

Talent pool

As many as three universities in the region offer majors in biotechnology: the University of Gdańsk – in cooperation with the Gdańsk Medical University – and the Gdańsk University of Technology. The opening of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk in 1993 was of crucial importance for the development of the sector. It is currently the leading scientific and educational institution with the status of the European Center of Excellence in Molecular Biomedicine. There are over 700 students and biotechnology faculties at Tricity universities.

Leaders of the market

The foundations for the development of biotechnology in Pomerania were laid down by the leading drug producer in Central and Eastern Europe – Polpharma. The company established its production in Starogard Gdański in 1935. Over the years, Polpharma has developed its product portfolio and invested heavily in R&D. Currently, it’s the leader in the pharmaceutical market in Poland and in CEE, and one of the 20 largest generic medicine manufacturers in the world. The company has 7 production plants in Poland, Russia and Kazakhstan, and 5 R&D centers and employs over 7500 people globally. Its portfolio includes nearly 7500 products. 1 in 8 medicine packages sold in Polish pharmacies and 1 in 3 medicine packages used in hospitals come from Polpharma.

Pomerania-based drug manufacturer Polpharma is the market leader in CEE

Companies producing cosmetics began to emerge in the Tricity area already in the 80s. The best examples are Oceanic and Ziaja, currently leading cosmetics manufacturers in Poland.

Oceanic is one of the leaders on the Polish cosmetics market that has for almost 40 years specialised in production of the world-class anti-allergic cosmetics AA. The company employs over 350 employees and produces 2 million product items per month that reach customers in Poland and other 40 countries around the world.

Ziaja is currently employing over 555 people and has nearly 1000 preparations in its product range. More than 66 million items of Ziaja’s products were marketed in 2015, while exports remain one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the company’s sales.

Research facilities

Researchers and companies carrying out R&D activities in the field of biotechnology can make use of a special offer by science and technology parks in Gdańsk and Gdynia. A prime example of a Pomeranian-based company heavily developing new solutions is Polpharma and its R&D units i.a. in Gdansk and Starogard Gdanski. Polpharma Group is currently conducting 270 development projects. It employs 419 R&D employees, including 72 with a doctorat and spent around 2 billion PLN on R&D in the last two decades.

Learn more about the business infrastructure.

Other related sectors

Speaking of biotechnology, other chemistry-related sectors should be mentioned. Gdansk is a host to a leading oil refinery company Lotos (soon to merge with Orlen to create a top oil company in CEE). The whole Lotos Group employs around 5000 specialists. In it’s Gdansk refinery the company produces fuels, industrial lubes and oils.

In Pomerania also other signifcant chemistry-related business activities are carried out, i.a. ferlizers production (Fosfory in Gdansk), plastic materials production (Fabryka Plastikow in Kwidzyn).

Despite the difficult situation in the automotive industry caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 Poland recorded only a slight decrease in exports of goods from this sector – it reached the level of USD 29.7 billion.

This result is largely due to the significant increase in exports of lithium-ion batteries. It is the development of electromobility, as well as autonomous vehicles and hydrogen solutions that create new, promising prospects for the development of the automotive industry in northern Poland, which has so far not been commonly identified with the automotive sector.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, electromobility is developing extremely dynamically. Poland turned out to be an excellent location for the production of components and batteries for e-cars. This is mainly due to the proximity of the sales market and the competitive price of electricity, but also access to qualified employees and a good investment climate.

Poland was among the top ten exporters of automotive parts in the world and a leading European exporter of lithium-ion batteries. Investment projects in the field of e-mobility have recently dominated the automotive sector, and companies such as LG Chem, Mercedes, Umicore, SK Innovation, Huarong and Foosung have started their new investment activities in the country.

The development of electromobility and the use of advanced technologies in the automotive industry create a new opportunity for Pomerania for a stronger presence in the supply chain in terms of battery construction, electronics production and software delivery.

Automotive sector in Pomerania

Due to the dynamic development of the automotive market in Central and Eastern Europe, Pomerania is gaining importance as an important link in the car supply chain. The growing capacity of the ports in the region has created an excellent access channel to the entire regional market. It is estimated that the demand for car reloading in Pomeranian ports will grow in line with the development of the car market in the EU.

Education

The higher education system in Pomerania currently consists of 24 universities and 80,500 students, of which almost 21,000 joined the local labour market in 2020. Pomeranian universities offer both a well-educated pool of talents and research facilities for the automotive sector, and the Gdańsk University of Technology is a clear leader in the field of engineering studies corresponding to the needs of the industry.

What is equally important, in recent years a number of reforms of the vocational training model have been undertaken in order to adjust the education profile to the requirements of the labor market and specific entrepreneurs. There are currently just over 61,000 students in vocational schools (excluding post-secondary schools) in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, half of them in occupations used in the automotive industry. About 3,000 students a year obtain vocational qualifications useful in the automotive sector (data for 2020).

Leaders in the sector

The advantages of the Pomeranian Voivodeship are becoming more and more noticeable among international companies. Due to the high potential (based primarily on the access to qualified personnel and the seaside location enabling the use of sea freight), the region may soon become another key area on the map of the Polish automotive sector, especially in the field of electromobility and solutions for autonomous cars.

In the context of electromobility, the flagship investment project is Northvolt. The Swedish manufacturer of batteries for electric cars and mining vehicles opened its first assembly plant in Gdańsk in 2018 and currently produces batteries for industrial equipment. In turn, the new Northvolt plant, which will start operating in 2023, will be built in the Pomeranian Investment Center at the back of the DCT container terminal and will ultimately employ up to 500 people. The plant will have an initial annual production capacity of 5 GWh and a potential future capacity of 12 GWh. The value of the investment is estimated at $ 200 million.

Pomerania is also an important location in terms of providing solutions for autonomous cars. Intel, Aptiv and Nippon Seiki Europe carry out their activities in this area in Gdańsk.

About two and a half thousand programmers are employed at Intel’s research and development center in Gdańsk. It is the largest corporation research and development center in Europe and the second largest in the world. At the headquarters in Gdańsk, in cooperation with other companies, Intel is developing, among others, data processing solutions used in autonomous vehicles.

Aptiv, on the other hand, produces active safety systems that help to minimize or completely eliminate human errors while driving a car, thus limiting their effects. The plant in Gdańsk, which currently employs about 1,000 people, produces technologically advanced products supporting autonomous driving (cameras, on-board computers) and control panels used in cars.

Nippon Seiki Europe is another important investor carrying out activities for the automotive sector. In the Gdańsk office, the company employs mainly specialists dealing with the specification, design, development and testing of software for on-board information systems. Design and development activities in Gdańsk are carried out in cooperation with other engineering centers of the Nippon Seiki Group. It includes systems design, software development, systems testing and diagnostics, and design of electrical, optical and mechanical subsystems.

Another key investor in the automotive industry is Eaton, which produces gearboxes, components for drive systems and compressors for combustion engines at its plants in Tczew. Eaton supplies its products to the leading manufacturers of passenger cars and trucks in Europe.

It is also worth noting the research and development activities carried out by Eaton in Tczew, where the modern Eaton Engineering Center employs approximately 40 engineers. The main tasks of the Center include supporting the current production at Eaton Truck Components and conducting R&D projects for the Eaton Truck and Eaton Automotive Groups.

When talking about the Pomeranian automotive sector, one cannot ignore such companies as AQ, Wiring Sytems Scania, Zoeller Tech and Federal Mogul.

AQ produces cables used, among others, in buses and agricultural machinery. Its clients include Scania, Bombardier, Komatsu, Zoeller, Krone, Grimme and ABB. In 2019, the company implemented a project of building a new plant, which is key from the perspective of its further development in Pomerania – over 600 people currently work in Linowiec near Starogard Gdański.

Learn more about the electronic sector.

Swedish Scania is another important company in the industry that has located its production in Pomerania. Scania has been assembling city buses at the plant in Słupsk since 1992. However, since 2014, a branch of the German company Zoeller Tech, the largest manufacturer of garbage trucks in Poland, has been operating in Rekowo Górne. Zoeller Tech is a leader in providing modern solutions for municipal companies. The company also conducts studies in its own design office, which is to be a guarantee of obtaining products with innovative solutions and the highest utility values.

Federal Mogul is an important point on the Pomeranian map of the automotive sector. Currently, over 1,000 people work at the plant in Gdańsk. Plain bearings, bimetallic strips and bronze powders are produced – the products are supplied to leading car manufacturers in Europe.

Elctronics production has deep roots in the region. The first large electronics manufacturer located in Pomerania was Radmor. RADMOR S.A. is the largest manufacturer of mobile VHF/UHF radiocommunication equipment in Poland and offers services from network design to delivery, manufacturing and servicing of equipment. In the last 20 years in the vicinity of Tczew and Kwidzyn, a number of other large enterprises representing mainly foreign capital have established their operations. Flex, Lacroix, Jabil, Panlink Poland, Gemalto, Gerdins Cable Systems, Orbit One should be named. Among the investors are also companies with domestic capital (such as Siled, Assel).

Most recent investments in the sector have been re-investments by the companies already established in Pomerania – including Flex, Lacroix or AQ Wiring – that Invest in Pomerania has supported.

Pomerania stands out from all the other regions in Poland due to it’s coastal location and presence of deep-water ports. The two Pomeranian ports (Port of Gdansk and Port od Gdynia) can handle all kinds of cargo and unlike Russian Baltic ports remain tideand ice-free all year round. In 2019 high transshipments both port kept their record for the fourth year in a row. Total volume od the cargo transshipped stood at 76 million tonnes. Container handling is undoubtedly the key driver of the growth. The main contributor to this result was DCT Gdansk (Deepwater Container Terminal).

With direct calls from Asia, the terminal has become a port hub for the CEE region inhabited by nearly 100 million citizens. Growing global trade, progressive process of containerization and expected economic growth in CEE (the faster growing region on Europe) will definitly enhance the container business in the next decade.

Warehousing market

Tricity warehousing stock has been constantly growing since 2006. Due to an impressive market growth from approx. 80,000 sq m (Q1 2008) to over 670,300 sq m (2019) recorded over the last decade, Tricity became the largest logistics hub in Northern Poland. Most of the logistics parks are located along Expressways, A1 Motorway and in the vicinity of the seaports.

Warehousing market growth was fueled mainly by two factors – the development of the two Pomeranian ports (Port of Gdansk and Port of Gdynia) as well as the development of the network of expressways and motorways in Poland. The real game changer, how – ever, was introduction of direct calls with Asia and thus growing volume container handling. Unlike office market, foreign developers dominated the market. The biggest players including Panattoni, Prologis, GLP, Segro and Poland-based 7R are active around Tricity. Recently, a new trend within the warehouse market has been noted. There is a growing number of smaller logistics parks offering smaller modules which is in line with the ‘last-mile’ logistics model. Projects of these type are usually located within the cities or their direct vicinity. Such solutions enable optimizing transportation costs and shortening delivery time to final customers lo – cated in expanding cities such as Warsaw, Tricity, Poznan, Wroclaw and Cracow.

In 2019 gross demand on the warehousing space market in Tricity was a record-breaking 176,100 sq m., with net take-up reaching nearly 155,300 sq m. Vacancy rate at 4.6% (increase by two percentages point YOY) remains below the country average which is estimated at around 6,7%.

E-commerce and 3PL (Third Party Logistics) have topped the leasing activity over the past twelve months. Sectors were responsible for 45% and 23% of all space take-up ine the region.Nearly 18% of warehouse space was leased by retail sector. Demand for the logistics space is set to double over the next decade.

Tricity warehousing market in 2019 was dominated by new deals, which accounted for more than half of all contracts concluded (57%). BTS (Build-to-suit) had a 37% share in all transactions, whilst expansion and renegotiations accounted for only 5% and 1% respectively. 39 lease contracts have been signed.

Effective rents were in the range of EUR 2.3-2.9 sq m/month. The level of rent rates may change again – the continuing upward trend in the cost of building materials and labor costs plays a significant role in this case.

Strong demand for the werehouse space reflect macroeconomic data. For the last years the Pomeranian economy has been growing at a fast pace reaching 7% in 2018. What’s worth noticing, the economic meltdown coused by covid-19 hasn’t stopped the hot werehouse market as e-commerce boosted demand.

Logistics facilities

Pomorskie also offers a well-developed and constantly expanded logistics base. The Pomeranian Logistics Center (PCL) is located on an area of 110 hectares in the vicinity of DCT Gdańsk, which – thanks to its location at the container terminal – fully implements the Port Centric Logistics concept. On the other hand, in the area of the Port of Gdynia, there is a Logistics Center adapted to the needs of logistics operators, shipping companies, companies dealing with storage services and other logistics service providers.

The road and rail infrastructure is also intensively expanding, including along the axis of the Baltic-Adriatic transport corridor, through which there are import and export cargo flows in Poland’s relations with other countries of the north and south of Europe.

The shipbuilding industry is one of the most dynamicaly developing sectors of the region’s economy. The Tricity shipyard’s product portfolio includes highly specialized vessels, such as cable layers, heavy lift jack-up and LNG-powered vessels, wind towers, arctic container ships and exclusive yachts.

Remontowa Group is one of the biggest companies in the sector. Its core business includes ship repairs and construction of specialised vessels, such as arctic containers ships, heavy lift jack-up or LNG-powered vessels. In the recent years the shipyard launched a number of hybrid powered ferries, which perfectly meets today’s trends in the short sea transportation.

Other leading companies include Crist shipyard (construction of heavy lift jack-up units), Energomontaz – Polnoc Gdynia (EPG), Mostostal Pomorze (construction of steel structures for the maritime industry), Nauta (ship repairs), GSG Tower (wind towers) or Kongsberg Maritime, previously Rolls Royce (deck winches and engine service).

The Polish yacht industry is the world leader on the most popular segment for 6-9 meters long motor boats (Poland ranks 2 after the USA in this category). Numerous companies operating in the region include Sunreef Yachts, Admiral Boats or Conrad Shipard as the prime examples.

In addition to production, ship design companies are also thriving in Tricity giving employment to over a 1000 engineers.

Among the completed projects, the heavy lift jack-up Innovation vessel (built by the Crist shipyard for EUR 200 million) should be mentioned. Cable layer Siem Aimery (built by the Remontowa Shipyard), is another example of advanced projects delivered in recent years. Siem Aimery alone is one of the most expensive and most technologically advanced projects ever undertaken by the Polish shipbuilding industry.

The world’s leading classification societies – DNV GL, Lloyds Register and American Bureau of Shipping – have their headquarters in TriCity. DNV GL’s office in Gdynia employs over 200 engineers. ICD Poland (part of the Vard group) and Kongsberg Maritime (previously Rolls-Royce Marine Poland),are also successfully developing their operations in Pomerania. Pomerania is home to two major research and design centers: the Ship Design and Research Centre S.A. (CTO) and the Maritime Technology Center (CTM).

Information and communications technology (ICT) is one of the most dynamically developing industries in Pomerania. As a result, the percentage share of the industry in direct foreign investments is growing every year. Already, IT and R&D centers in Tricity account for more than half of companies from the modern business services sector.

Qualified staff

The common landscape of Pomeranian ICT consists of many years of presence of global brands such as Intel and Amazon, as well as international successes of startups. In addition, an active community of programmers and enthusiasts of new technologies, as well as a culture of innovation that can be experienced at InfoShare or IT Manager of Tomorrow conferences. In addition, dozens of programming meetups and marathons, well-developed technical and scientific infrastructure, i.e. technology parks, incubators and accelerators, and top-class office space. The whole is complemented by a rich research offer at public universities, as well as the possibility of raising qualifications in private coding schools – over 2,500 graduates annually.

The number of people employed in the sector is growing at a rate of around 6% per year, of which over 3/4 work in ICT services. Companies in the sector prefer large aglomerations that provide adequate staff and graduates of IT and related faculties, which is why the main center of IT development in Pomerania is the Tricity.

Record-breaking income and employment

In 2013, the IT sector generated a record income accounting for 1/6 of the region’s income – and this number is still growing.

Among IT products companies, Intel is the largest employer in the region (currently around 2 500 people). Second place goes to French Sii (860 people), the second largest employer in the IT sector in northern Poland.

In terms of supported processes, software development dominates – together with the related R&D – followed by IT support, application maintenance and infrastructure management.

Since 2019, runs in Pomerania a hub – AI Pomerania – associating companies and institutions interested in the development of the artificial intelligence industry.

The business services sector in Tricity is hitting full maturity. More than ten years of consistent development have brought changes to the city’s labor market and skyline alike. New buildings are reshaping the urban landscape, while the city becomes home to more and more offices of major Fortune Global 500 companies. A growing number of well-established companies with a long presence in Pomerania are now expanding their operations and upskilling. This includes more complex processes, such as big data management and process automation.

There are already 158 modern business service centers in the region that support processes in 35 languages. Between 2019 and 2020, the sector increased employment by 7.32% and at the end of last year, over 30 thousand people worked in it.

In the latest report of the Association of Business Service Leaders (ABSL 2020), the Tricity took 1st place in the ranking of business service centers in terms of assessing the factors affecting the conduct of business services centers.

Types of services

Based on the dominant profile of the surveyed organisations, we can differentiate the following types of centers operating in Tricity: IT (53%), SSC (25%), R&D (10%), BPO (7%), Centers of Excellence (4%). This shows that the inflow of FDI to Pomerania consists mostly of IT companies (IT/ITO/ITCoE) and Shared Service Centers (SSC).

Record employment

According to the latest report of the Union of Business Service Leaders (ABSL), in the period between the first quarter of 2017 and the first quarter of 2018, Tricity recorded the highest increase in employment in the BSS sector in Poland – the number of jobs increased by as much as 21% and employment level is now at 25 000 jobs.

Talent pool

The quality of the human capital in Tricity has been appreciated by investors that have transferred their advanced business support processes to Pomerania. The excellent talent pool in the region allowed for the creation of the first centers for knowledge-based services (KPO) and centers of excellence (CoE) in the region (Coleman, PwC and Thomson Reuters should be named here).

Pomeranian universities offer many unique specialisations and cooperate with investors already present in the region. Characteristic for the region is a large pool of students and graduates who are fluent in less-popular foreign languages, such as Scandinavian languages. Frequent air connections between Poland and Scandinavia also fuel the growing interest of Scandinavian investors in Pomerania. There are currently 20 Nordic companies in the region that employ over 2100 people.

Learn more about the availability of talents.

Advanced processes

The most common processes supported are software development, finance and accounting, HR and customer service. Among the more advanced processes represented in the region robotic process automation (RPA), big data analysis and machine learning should be named. As RPA is an inevitable consequence of technological development, all BSS centers are preparing themselves for this step in one way or another.

What also distinguishes Tricity on the Polish map of business services is a clearly stronger position of R&D centers. Over 3 800 people are currently working in Tricity’s R&D centers (as of Q2 2020).

Pomeranian BSS centers also specialise in:

• software development

• IT support

• data processing

• telemarketing

• customer service

• financial and accounting services

• HR and payroll services

• information management

Modern office space

The development of the BSS sector is made possible by the dynamic growth of high-standard office capacity. With almost 863 500 sqm of modern office space (as of Q2 2020). In 2021, according to JLL forecasts, the office space market in the Tricity will reach 1 million sqm. About 73% of newly established offices are in Gdańsk, the remaining part in Gdynia (22%) and Sopot (5%). Learn more about the business infrastructure.
