Global packaging leader expands plant in Tczew

WEstrock

In February 2023, leading carton packaging supplier WestRock opened a new production hall in Tczew. This is the next stage of the plant’s expansion. The investment will create an additional 80 jobs.

Westrock is a global leader in plant-based fibre packaging. The company employs 58,000 people in more than 300 locations worldwide. Westrock provides packaging for a wide range of industries, including cosmetics, FMCG, e-commerce and electronics. Westrock is headquartered in Atlanta, USA. The company is listed on the US stock exchange and had revenues of US $ 22 billion last year.

The carton production facility has been operating in Tczew since 2006 – initially as Cartondruk, since 2011 as Multiple Packaging Solutions and finally since 2018 as WestRock following the global consolidation of the companies. Thanks to the expansion, the total area of the Tczew plant has doubled, which has definitely increased production capacity.

Last year, we produced almost 400 million packaging units. Thanks to the new investment, we will be able to double this amount in 2024 – comments Grzegorz Manowski, Regional Operations Director.

The company supplies its products to 15 blue chips companies, whose products can be bought all around the world.

WestRock is also expanding its staff. As a result of the plant expansion, the team will be increased by around 40%. Recruitment is already underway.

Sustainability in earnest
A key direction driving the company’s momentum is the sustainable use of the resources WestRock uses to create its products.

In 2020 alone, WestRock launched around 30 new paper and packaging products that take into account a range of environmental requirements. Among its offerings is paper lipstick packaging that does not need the use of plastic cushioning film and other fillers that are difficult to reuse. The company is also working on recovering material from corrugated cardboard pizza boxes.
At the moment, 60% of WestRock’s products can be recycled, composted or reused. The company is aiming for 100% by 2025.

This business model fits perfectly with the objectives for attracting foreign investment, which the World Bank developed for us last year. We are keen to diversify industrial projects, which at the same time will be neutral to our environment – comments Mieczysław Struk, Marshall of the Pomeranian Voivodship.

WestRock’s production facility is located in Tczew on Malinowska Street. The project has received CIT tax exemption support from the Polish Investment Zone, granted by the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, a partner of the Invest in Pomerania initiative.
