300 people will gain marketable professional qualifications thanks to EU funding. Invest in Pomerania, a local government initiative coordinated by the Pomerania Development Agency, signed an agreement with the Centre for New Competences on 16 January 2023 to implement a series of training courses preparing for work in the maritime and offshore industry.

Invest in Pomerania Academy project aims to increase the number of people with the most sought-after competencies on the local labour market. The needs of industries related to selected areas of Pomerania’s Intelligent Specialisations – including the offshore sector – are particularly taken into account. Such activities are also an important investment incentive for entrepreneurs choosing Pomerania as a place to do business.

– In recent years, the port and offshore industry has been developing at a remarkable pace in Pomerania. Wharves are consistently increasing their reloading capacity and warehouse space in the voivodeship is growing steadily. The specialisations we have prepared have been created in response to market needs and we are convinced that the participants of the training courses will be able to choose from a wide range of job offers,’ argues Monika Stokfisz, Invest in Pomerania Academy Coordinator.

Courses with opportunities for both the employee and the employer

The Academy programme includes six specialisations. The New Competence Centre will train participants in the following professions: terminal tractor operator, specialised cranes, tower crane, reach stacker and trolley operator. A total of 300 people will receive new qualifications – 150 Polish speakers and the same amount of non-Polish speakers. The planned training for foreigners is intended to help integrate and activate immigrants in the labour market.
Participants will be able to count on funding of up to 50% of the price of the training, thanks to resources from the Regional Operational Programme for the Pomeranian Voivodeship. Those wishing to take part can apply at sekretariat@cnkom.pl, and detailed information is available on the website: IPA operator training – CNK – Centre for New Competences (cnkom.pl).

What is still to come

Invest in Pomerania Academy is also providing reskilling for specialisations needed in the IT sector. By the end of 2023, almost 500 people are planned to be trained in this key industry for the region.
