Pomerania: Market Insights 2018

Pomerania stands out from all the other regions due to its coastal location and presence of two dynamic seaports. Its unique logistic potential results primarily from this excellent geographic location at the intersection of two pan-European networks linking Western Europe with the Baltic states, and Scandinavia with the Adriatic Sea.

The region’s two growing seaports ports, the Port of Gdańsk and the Port of Gdynia, can handle all kinds of cargo and, unlike the Russian ports, remain tide- and ice-free all year round.  Last year, both ports had record high transhipments for the fourth year in a row.

Container handling is undoubtedly the key driver of the growth. The main contributor to this result was Gdańsk Deepwater Container Terminal (DCT) that has become a port hub for Central and Eastern Europe. Growing global trade, the process of containerization and expected economic growth in CEE will further enhance container business in the coming decade.
