Education and business in Pomerania

Between theory and practice – cooperation of Pomeranian universities with enterprises. Learn about the potential of universities in our region.

The first part of a free report “Innovations come from Pomerania” is already available. It includes an analysis of the economic situation of Pomerania and its priority sectors, as well as the system of higher education in Poland, including the cycle of studies, legal regulations, and methods of university evaluation. The report presents the importance of Pomeranian universities in the context of the whole country and highlights their role in the promotion of the region.

The potential of cooperation between business and science

“Our goal is to build awareness about the potential that Pomerania has – both in terms of educating future staff and in terms of developing new technologies. Pomeranian universities have a lot to offer not only to students but also to entrepreneurs. With this publication, we would like to start a discussion on how to support cooperation between science and business in the Pomeranian region and what benefits can such cooperation bring to both groups and, consequently, to the whole region.”

-Anna Jagodzińska-Warzych, Investor Spokesperson, Investor Relations Project Manager at Invest in Pomerania.

Each year, thousands of new graduates enter the Pomeranian labour market. In order to increase their chances of finding a job, proper cooperation between universities and companies is needed. Mutual communication of their needs and taking joint initiatives not only ensures a higher level of education for students, but also prepares them better for the expectations of future employers.

The potential that comes from the cooperation of science and business is not limited to the training of qualified professional staff, but also includes such opportunities as:

  • making university infrastructure available for commercial use,
  • conducting joint research and development work between private companies and universities,
  • performing analyses and expert opinions commissioned by enterprises.

The exchange of knowledge and experience between business and science is beneficial for the entire region. It is what drives the development of innovation.

The key to success

“Technological progress is one of the most important measures of the high quality of life and competitiveness of regions. Innovation has a key impact on the pace of economic processes taking place in a given area. That is why the policy of the Pomeranian voivodeship is directed at promoting technologically advanced sectors and building support instruments around them. The key to success is also the cooperation between the world of business and the world of science.[…]”

– Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship.

The publication was prepared in collaboration with seven Pomeranian universities, which provided information about their own innovative scientific projects and achievements, distinguishing them from other universities in Poland and representing their research potential. The report is available in Polish and English.
