Alfa, a UK-based technology company supporting the financial sector, has chosen Gdańsk as the location for its first office in Poland. The company has outlined a five-year development plan.
Since 1990, this British powerhouse has been delivering IT systems and services to the global asset finance and automotive sectors. Leveraging agile methodologies and deep industry expertise, Alfa successfully delivers projects for the world’s leading leasing providers. The Polish office joins Alfa’s international network of locations in Europe, North America, and Oceania.
Global Product Development
The company’s flagship product, Alfa Systems, is a cloud-native, SaaS platform designed to meet the diverse needs of the asset finance industry. Its flexible architecture supports a wide range of financial products, including complex lease agreements, loans, and usage-based offerings. Through process automation, intelligent decision-making, and seamless integration, clients can optimize operations and respond flexibly to changing market conditions.
One of Alfa’s core principles is involving teams from multiple locations in product development. This exchange of ideas and perspectives ensures solutions that are comprehensive, customer-focused, and inclusive – values at the heart of Alfa’s mission.
Impressed by the Tricity
The decision followed months of discussions and careful evaluation. The expansion into Central and Eastern Europe is part of Alfa’s strategy to build a diverse and innovative global community.
– The Tricity stood out with its strong tech community and became the center of our recruitment efforts for this year and beyond. During our visits, I was impressed by the energy, professionalism, and openness of the local IT community, as well as the beauty and culture of the region – said Andrew Flegg, Chief Technology Officer. – This step reflects our commitment to attracting top talent. Our new colleagues will tackle the functional and technical challenges of implementing a platform designed for clients financing everything from sports cars to satellites.
Local Leadership with Global Reach
Develocraft, a Gdańsk-based firm known for mapping the IT talent landscape, has taken the lead on establishing Alfa’s Polish operations. A trusted local partner, Develocraft is well-equipped to support this new investor. Alongside Invest in Pomerania – a regional initiative coordinated by the Pomerania Development Agency – they provided all the necessary information for a localization decision.
– A reference visit to Gdańsk was a turning point for Alfa. The decision-makers were impressed by the business potential and the maturity of the local labor market. The Infoshare conference made a huge impact – they saw firsthand how vibrant and well-organized our tech ecosystem is – said Kamil Parafiniuk, Board Member at Develocraft. – Our partners from Invest in Pomerania were a valuable source of insights on business operations in Poland and the economic environment of the region.
Personality Over Perfection
Alfa’s office is being launched in the modern 04 Coworking space, enabling a flexible start and scalable operations. By the end of the year, the company plans to hire a dozen specialists in host-ops and product engineering. Notably, Alfa is recruiting not only senior experts but also juniors — a promising sign for a tech job market recently affected by volatility.
– There’s been talk of stagnation in the IT sector. But we see a shift toward more advanced processes. Investments like Alfa or Openchip, announced this spring, show that our region has a lot to offer the world and that Pomerania’s tech ecosystem continues to grow with exciting new employers – commented Marcin Grzegory, Deputy Director at Invest in Pomerania.
The UK company will offer employment contracts and base its hiring decisions on personality and potential – not just technical proficiency. Alfa values long-term relationships and internal promotion, fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment. For its dedication to these principles, Alfa received the Gold ‘We invest in people’ certification from Investors in People this year.
The Gdańsk office represents a significant part of Alfa’s future. Over the next five years, the company expects to significantly expand its team in Poland.
