Best-performing region
With the GDP growing at 7% in 2017, and 8,6% in 2019, Pomorskie is one of the fastest growing regions in Poland and in Europe. Between 2012-2016 the region was growing faster than Berlin and Paris, according to the American Milken Institute. Tricity and Gdansk were also awarded, among others, 1st place in the overall ranking of business services locations in terms of assessment of factors affecting the ability of business services centers of doing business there, ABSL Report 2020, 4th place in the Top 25 Tech Cities of the Future 2020/21 under the FDI Strategy category, Financial Times FDI Intelligence Tech Cities of the Future Ranking and between 2016-2020 the most “Dynamically Developing” City in Poland, CEE Shared Services and Outsourcing Awards.
Over the period 2006-2015, the number of employed increased by 45,1% – the highest relative increase recorded in all the regions of the European Union. This, together with a number of other factors, resulted in that Milken Institute – an independent American think tank – ranked Pomorskie no. 4 in its index of Best-Performing Cities in Europe in 2017.
The region also records the highest population growth in the entire country (in 2019, the growth rate was 1.5 per thousand inhabitants, according to the Central Statistical Office) and one of the highest internal and foreign migration balances for permanent residence, which creates excellent career opportunities for high-class specialists .
Strategic location
The region’s excellent location at the Baltic Sea and at the intersection of international transport routes fuels cross-border exchange and attracts foreign investments. With the excellent talent pool, diversified and specialised economy, two dynamic seaports, fast-growing international airport and expanding logistics infrastructure – Pomerania is one of the best performers in Europe.
Investment attraction
Many Fortune Global 500 companies trusted Pomerania as the right place to locate their operations. Global multinationals – Bayer, Thyssen Krupp, Intel, Amazon, Sony, PwC – to name just a few – have chosen the region as their European location for business service centers.
Słupsk, Tczew, Kwidzyn and Lębork are other main cities that attract major FDIs. Companies such as Scania, E.ON Sverige, Gino Rossi, Curver, Flextronics International, Eaton Trucks, Gemalto, Molex, Tapflo, Alteams and International Paper Kwidzyn are among the top investments. Key sectors
Services, industry and construction sector are the driving forces of the Pomeranian economy, while the region’s two dynamic ports in Gdynia and Gdańsk fuel development of international trade.

Talent pool
With its more than 2,3 million inhabitants (2019), Pomerania is currently witnessing the highest natural population growth in the country. It’s also recording a positive migration balance, as more and more people come to settle in the area.
The regions vital economic activity is mostly concentrated within the Tricity agglomeration (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot and the neighboring counties, together counting for 1,5 mln inhabitants). But Pomorskie has also other strong urban centers that together form the backbone of the region’s economic growth. As much as 64% (2019) of the population (the majority in productive age) is concentrated in other region’s cities, constituting a valuable capital available to the investors.
24 higher education institutions make Pomerania the biggest academic center of northern Poland that supplies the market with educated graduates in many sought-after specialisations.
