Sustainable Urban Mobility – E-bikes #MadeinPomerania

The E-bikes market in Europe is booming. According to the latest data published by the European Cyclists’ Federation, more than 3 million e-bikes were sold in 2019, which represents a 23% year-on-year increase in sales, making E-bikes sales 17% of the total bicycle sales.

What’s more, an increase in sales meets an increase in production, which also recorded a 60% year-on-year growth. The sector currently employs 60,000 people all over the EU and another 60,000  work for the sector indirectly.

Pomerania is fast becoming a new sweet spot on the bicycle manufacturing map of Europe. Along with local and Scandinavian companies,  Winfield EBikes, a Hong Kong-backed company has been operating from Tricity for a year now.

Winfield EBikes is developing its new manufacturing establishment in Gdansk as well as potential sales and marketing functions in the region. Currently, their target market is Germany, but after setting up base here, they are exploring entering other markets and increasing their European footprint.

When asked about what made them choose Tricity as their base of operations, Richard Chiu, Project Manager said that “ After our due diligence, We concluded that Gdansk is the best location of setting up our production facilities due to its geographical location, container seaport, easy reach of air and road transport, modern infrastructure, abundant supply of labor, high standard of professional services such as accountant, lawyer and customs consultant, availability of international and internal market, and suitable production facilities for our purpose”. Talking about other factors, he enthusiastically continues, “ Not only that, but the quality of life in the Tricity is also really good and most importantly, we perceive a more open, honest, and business-friendly government and business culture in the region and appreciate the assistance provided by the regional government via Invest in Pomerania”.

Winfield’s facility also fits in really well with Pomerania’s goal to develop environment-friendly and sustainable businesses, “ We are very excited to have Winfield in the region. E-mobility and last-mile urban solutions have been our focus area for a while now and Winfield not only fits in those categories but also with our ethos of growing sustainable, environment-friendly businesses. We look forward to supporting their growth and marketing efforts”, says Mikolaj Trunin, Deputy Director, Invest in Pomerania.

Winfield EBikes is backed by investors with over two decades of experience in the manufacture and marketing of e-bikes in far east Asia.
