How did the pandemic affect the Tricity business services sector? The latest Invest in Pomerania report shows that despite the pandemic, the Tricity BSS sector continued to show growth and managed to create 2000 new jobs.

The 2021 edition of The State of Business Services Sector in the 3cITy report shows the current trends in the region and focuses on the Tricity business services sector after a year of pandemic challenges. The Global pandemic found the Pomeranian business services sector in its prime. Between 2011 and 2020, employment in the sector grew five-fold and the region attracted many global brands. The inevitable slowdown of the economy did not spare the Tricity during the first months of the crisis, but this sector never stopped growing and welcoming new investments. After the first shock, the development continued, and as many as 2000 new jobs were created in the sector in 2020/2021. In spite of the unstable times, new investors decided to come to Tricity and the companies already present on the market, continued to grow.

2020, was the year that tested but never bested the Tricity business community and made us improve and innovate our support services. BSS proved to be one of the most resilient and agile sectors of the economy, able to remain active and productive despite unusual circumstances – says Marcin Grzegory, Deputy Director of Invest in Pomerania.

The report prepared by the Invest in Pomerania team presents current trends shaping the BSS sector in Tricity. The basis for the report was data provided by the companies operating in the region. According to the research that preceded the publication, at the beginning of 2021 the Tricity business services sector employed more than 31,800 people, never stopping its growth. The key processes supported by the BSS centres include IT, R&D and financial services. This shows the strong position of the region in areas such as artificial intelligence, software development, compliance, anti-money laundering (AML), and know your customer (KYC).

The study also focused on the level of investor satisfaction. According to the representatives of the BSS sector, IIP continues to provide high-quality and diversified investor support.  Almost 90% of the companies surveyed claim that they would highly recommend both the Pomerania region and cooperation with Invest in Pomerania to future investors.
