Invest in Pomerania, a self-government initiative coordinated by the Pomerania Development Agency, together with its partners is taking part in one of the most important technology conferences in the world – Web Summit – which took place from 13–16 November in Lisbon. This was a unique opportunity to establish strategic business relations and present innovative projects from the IT sector developing in Pomerania.
Web Summit is a prestigious event dedicated to the latest technological developments and the future of business. Web Summit partners include both Fortune 500 companies and start-ups. The event is a platform for exchanging experience and establishing business contacts.
Invest in Pomerania at Web Summit
Invest in Pomerania’s participation at the Web Summit was another important step taken by the Pomerania Development Agency in building the region’s brand as an important technology hub in Poland and Europe. The conference was an excellent opportunity to showcase the region’s potential and encourage investors, start-ups, unicorn companies and young talent to actively participate in shaping the future of the IT industry in Pomerania. Representatives of the organisation itself, as well as its partners, including the City of Gdynia, InvestGDA, Develocraft, Serfy, Vendue Tech, Digiteum, Blue Dot Solutions, Scalac and eFisco, were present at the Invest in Pomerania stand.
The City of Gdynia and Invest GDA promoted the potential of the Tricity and seek new investments in the world of innovative technologies. Other companies focused on establishing business contacts and searching for potential investors and contractors.
Develocraft specialises in supporting start-ups: it helps to create a viable business model that fits the needs of the market, product development and implementation, as well as recruitment of specialists. The commercial offer of Develocraft is an excellent supplement to the services offered by the Gdańsk-based Starter incubator or Pomeranian technology parks.
Digiteum, Scalac and eFisco are software companies, creating bespoke software for individual clients. The visit to Lisbon was a unique opportunity not only to conclude new contracts, but also to build brand recognition in an international forum.
Blue Dot Solutions specialises in developing software using satellite data. The company’s products are used, for example, to monitor mobile elements of ground infrastructure at airports, monitor public transport journeys in real time or locate objects and people inside industrial buildings.
Grant programme attracts start-ups to Pomerania
Serfy and Vendue Tech are start-ups that have benefited from the Pomerania Development Agency’s grant programme and are developing their technologies in Gdańsk. Lithuanian Serfy’s ambition is to optimise task management. With their software, service companies can improve the maintenance of their customers’ production. Information is provided in real time, which greatly facilitates the process of repairing damaged equipment. Service response times are shorter and task management is more efficient. Croatian Vendue Tech, on the other hand, is developing a sales platform, which, in the shortest terms, is used to collect data and market the properties of bankrupt companies. The platform operates in the cloud, which makes it much easier to update in real time.
Prospects and opportunities for Pomerania
The dynamic development of the ICT sector in Pomerania is evidenced by the industry’s growing share of foreign direct investment. In the Tricity, more than 129 companies employ more than 10 employees, the vast majority of which are IT centres and research and development centres.
– Pomerania offers not only a well-developed technological infrastructure, but also an attractive geographical location, access to sea ports and airports, and a wide range of universities. On the other hand, the presence of incubators, accelerators and technology clusters creates favourable conditions for the development of innovative projects – and this is what we are counting on in the near future – comments Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Region.
Currently, Pomerania employs more than 25.000 programmers, who find employment in product companies such as Intel, Boeing, Hapag-Lloyd, Amazon or Nordea, outsourcing companies such as Sii, EPAM, Ciklum, Kainos, Cognizant, Wipro, as well as in internal IT departments in Shared Services Centres – Bayer, Lyreco, DNV GL.
